LDHS Portable Appliance
Testing (PAT) at
£1.50
per test
LDHS
provides a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) service in the
Edinburgh, Lothians & Borders areas of Scotland.
It is also available, by
quotation only, to clients in other
areas of Scotland. (see
below) LDHS is based near Edinburgh, in Midlothian,
Scotland.
LDHS has
more than 40 years experience in the design, testing,
repair
and maintenance of electronic equipment, and has been
carrying out portable appliance testing in Edinburgh, Scotland
since 1989.
Please
note that LDHS does not carry out periodic inspection and testing of
fixed wiring.
Your LDHS engineer will:
LDHS uses
Seward
Electronic Ltd. PAT testing equipment. (1000S & Primetest 300)
Please note that LDHS uses portable appliance testing equipment
specifically designed to test IT equipment.
The testing procedure will not cause any damage to delicate
electronic equipment such as computers, monitors etc.
All work is carried
out in line with the Code
of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical
Equipment (3rd edition).
The charges shown
below cover the formal visual inspection and testing of portable appliances to the
full requirements and recommendations of the Electricity at Work
Regulations 1989.

per test (subject to the
conditions below)
- The minimum
invoice charge is
£60
This will cover 1 to 40 portable appliance tests (with no optional
extras)
- There is no VAT to be
added to any price on this site.

equipment covered by the regulations, whether rated as portable,

indicating whether the equipment passed

- Asset tagging
(not a legal requirement), with or
without barcode, can be carried out on request (from 5p to 25p per item)
- FREE
portable appliance testing of detachable mains leads (IEC) which are connected to equipment being tested.
N.B. The mains lead and equipment to which it is connected, are tested
separately.
Any spare mains leads not connected to a piece of equipment will be
tested and charged at £1.50
As most computers, monitors, scanners, fax machines, printers, etc.,
have detachable IEC mains leads, this may substantially reduce the cost
of testing, especially in an office environment.
- FREE
replacement of faulty mains plug (BS1363)
N.B. A new mains plug will only be fitted to REPLACE one which fails
testing but otherwise is operational.
i.e. A new mains plug will not be fitted FREE where one is missing or
impossible to use.
A new BS1363 mains plug can be fitted, on request, for a total cost of
£1.00
- FREE
replacement of damaged or incorrectly rated fuses
N.B. A new fuse will only be fitted to REPLACE one of the wrong value,
or one that shows signs of overheating.
i.e. A new fuse will not be fitted FREE where the fuse is missing or
blown.
A new fuse can be fitted, on request, for a total cost of £0.30
- FREE
repair of faulty or incorrect connections in the mains plug or power
connector
- FREE
repair to faulty cable grips or clamps in the mains plug
- FREE
minor repairs requiring no parts
- FREE
quotation for other repairs

- A microwave oven leakage
test can be carried out, on request, to verify compliance with: BS EN
60335-2-90: 1998 Safety of Household and Similar Electrical Appliances -
Commercial Microwave Ovens & EN 60335-2-25/A1: 2000 Particular
Requirements for Microwave Ovens
- This test will be
FREE if carried out at the same time as a portable appliance test on
a microwave oven

Pricing and Additional
Charges

There is no VAT to be added to
any price on this site. Prices were last updated on 21st

With the exception of optional
extras (such as asset tagging), the only additional charges on your Portable
Appliance Testing invoice will be for unavoidable travel expenses.
In the case of a special quotation, there may also be daily out-of-area travel / accommodation
charges (see
below)

In order to keep the price per
portable appliance test to a minimum, it has been necessary to introduce
charging for unavoidable travel expenses. These expenses
include parking charges, bridge tolls, motorway charges and
congestion charges.
The areas covered by parking charges seem to spread rapidly,
especially in Edinburgh.
- Please note that the minimum
invoice charge of £60 applies to each location
A
location is defined as an area where test sites are adjacent
to, or within 100 metres of, each other
If separate reports and certificates are required for adjacent sites, they
will be treated as individual locations where the minimum invoice charge
will apply
- Invoices and Payment

- The portable appliance testing
invoice will be sent by e-mail in Adobe PDF format
- Payment terms are 30 days from
the last date of portable appliance testing
i.e. Payment must be received so as it can be cleared by
the 30th day after the last date of testing
- Payment may be made by cheque or
preferably electronically (details will be on the Invoice)
- The portable appliance test
certificate will only be issued once full payment of
the invoice has been made
- We
understand and will exercise our statutory right to claim interest and
compensation for debt recovery costs under
The Late Payment of
Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 if we are not paid
according to our credit terms

Travel Expenses
- N.B. If
the premises are closed. or the engineer can not gain access, it will be assumed that
the job is cancelled

- LDHS has experience of
Portable Appliance Testing where there are the following hazards:
- Biological (categories
1, 2 & 3), Chemical, Radiation, Animal, Environmental and High Voltage
- There is no extra charge
for this service, but additional information will be required so that
appropriate arrangements may be made before testing commences
- LDHS Portable Appliance
Testing will be arranged at a time convenient to you
- The LDHS portable
appliance testing service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- This includes public
holidays There is no extra charge for testing outwith normal office
hours
- LDHS is usually fully
booked up for portable appliance testing at least 4 weeks in advance.
This can extend to as much as 10 weeks during the summer months. This is due to
some of our larger clients preferring
to have the testing carried out when their premises are empty or much
quieter. e.g. factories and educational establishments
- Please try to organise
portable appliance testing at least 8 weeks in advance
- More notice will usually be
required for portable appliance testing outwith normal office hours
- Requests for portable
appliance testing at short notice may occasionally be possible, depending on LDHS
workload and the number of tests required (maximum 100 if short
notice)
- A
Portable Appliance Test Report & Certificate of Portable Appliance Testing
will be provided
- The Portable
Appliance Test Report
(Equipment, ID, Location, Date, Test data,
Pass/Fail etc ) will be sent with the invoice
- A Certificate of
Portable Appliance Testing will be sent upon receipt of full payment of
the invoice
- A Microsoft Access®
or Microsoft Excel®
version of the Portable Appliance Test Report, can be provided, on
request, upon receipt of
full payment of the invoice This will be sent
FREE by e-mail
- All LDHS Portable Appliance
Test Data will be stored FREE for a minimum of 10 years
